Back on the mainland we decided to travel south on an inland route rather than suffer the endless road works on the coast road. Burdekin Falls Dam didn't sound like much but as we walked to the viewing platform a sensational panorama opened up before our eyes. The dam is at full capacity with huge volumes of water rushing down the spill way and over the connecting road, making it impassable. (Ref. last photo) We will now need to back track and do a 400 km detour. The first photo shows the location of the deep gorge with its impressive waterfalls.

Zurueck auf dem Festland haben wir beschlossen die Inlandroute Richtung Sueden zu fahren, statt uns durch die Baustellen der Kuestenstrecke zu quaehlen. Burdekin Falls Dam hat sich nicht grossartig angehoert, aber das Panorama das sich vor uns ausgebreitet hatte als wir zu der Aussichtsplattform gingen, war einfach sensationell. Der Staudamm hat seine Kapazitaet erreicht und riesige Wassermassen laufen ueber die Staumauer und ueber die Verbindungsstrasse Richtung Sueden. (siehe letztes Photo) Wie es aussieht muessen wir jetzt einen 400km-Umweg fahren.
Das erste Photo zeigt wo die tiefe Schlucht mit den beeindruckenden Wasserfaellen ist.
