English:
The Pilbara is a very isolated, mostly mountainous region in the north-west of Western Australia, and is currently famous for it’s Iron ore deposits.

Weano Gorge |
In fact, the iron ore is just everywhere, and in some regions pure iron ore (>70%) lies around on the ground in vast quantities. The blue-grey Hematite is very heavy and the iron sparkles in the sun.

Another iron-brick in the wall |
Other areas have huge cliffs with hundreds of layers of various deposits that display the earth’s history and the incredible forces that have created these mountains.

Some rocks are up to 3500 million years old, and would have witnessed the very creation of our planet!! This is just beyond our comprehension, but if that time span was just one hour then man would have started to exist in the last half second of that year.

The reward for a steep climb down to Hermersley Gorge. |
Karijini is a place with several deep and narrow gorges and walking there is not for the faint hearted, but climbing steep cliffs, slippery rocks, and very loose sandy slopes in 32°C heat is always rewarded with a swim in a cool fresh water pool or under a waterfall.

Thick layers of pure iron ore. |

Spinifex has hard and sharp needles, covers most of the Pilbara and reflects the harshness of this land. |

The clear waters in the gorges look like lemonade... |

(Although it doesn't look like it, the rock face is actually flat)
